In service of human potential

Alpyne Labs is a Seattle-based research and incubation group.

While some react to life, others take proactive actions. These are the people we live to support. Alpyne Labs conducts primary research in the areas of proactive health, productivity, and career. Our findings serve as the foundation for solutions in all shapes and forms - communities, products, or services. Since 2012, we have removed inhibitors of human potential and helped empower people to be their best self.

Proactive Health

Proactive health is best defined as the actions we take in prevention of illness and ailment. We go beyond how sleep, fitness, and nutrition simply affect our physical and mental wellbeing, and further into the optimization of these areas. We’re exploring the coordination of these areas and how they compound on one another.

Focus Areas

  • Fitness
  • Nutrition
  • Sleep

Productivity

How do we get things done? What influences our ability to achieve what we set out to do? As individuals, teams, and organizations, the study of productivity is the study of human growth. We explore the different environments, tools, processes, mindsets, and peers that influence one’s ability to get things done.

Focus Areas

  • Goal achievement
  • Organizational psychology
  • Habit formation

Career

An average adult will spend half their waking hours working. While not everyone needs their career to be a source of fulfillment, we believe in helping people enjoy that half of their life as much as they can. We’ve helped support inner city high school students to mid-career professionals. Research has ranged from how people select their careers, to training on the job, to exploring career transitions.

Focus Areas

  • Online Education
  • Autodidacticismn
  • Entrepreneurship

Our story

Starting in 2012, our charter has been exploring the limits of human potential in the areas of career and productivity. What inhibits growth and how might we remove those inhibitors? What catalyzes action and learning?

Our first project, Innovii, explored bringing a hands-on, project-based pedagogy to teaching entrepreneurship in high schools. We gave micro loans to teams of high school students and a 10 day window to create a profitable “micro venture”. Another project, Aced, went on to study the effectiveness of peer tutors in universities to learning outcomes. Selfstart explored ways to help online learners select the right online courses for them. Frontier explored ways to give students and professionals the ability to “test drive” professions before committing time and resources.

In 2018, Alpyne Labs introduced the third area of research in proactive health and wellness. Initial studies are focused on passive tracking of fitness and sleep to support one’s learning objectives.
